Two rounds of redundancies and a FTSE 100 exit put work in front of Entain's UK advisers.

What moved

Entain logged 9 qualifying events in the UK in the last 90 days, from 7 July to 5 October 2026, across four classes: restructuring, layoffs, M&A activity and leadership change. On 16 July Bloomberg reported 500 job cuts, about 2% of the global workforce, citing higher UK taxes and tighter regulation.

SBC News tied those cuts to the rise in UK remote gaming duty from 21% to 40%, and noted they reversed earlier claims of no planned redundancies. By 21 July they sat inside a global efficiency programme (SBC News), and the chief marketing officer for the UK brands had left on mutually agreed terms (SBC News).

September brought a second wave. On 9 September SBC News confirmed cuts affecting up to 500 employees. On 16 September Casino.org News reported about 400 customer care jobs going, 20% of 2,000 roles, against proposed increases to UK Machine Games Duty, and SBC News carried the same figure on 18 September. Stella David, chief executive officer of Entain, put it plainly: “Inconvenience is not an excuse for inaction.”

On 7 September Entain dropped from the FTSE 100 to the FTSE 250 after five years in the index, with market capitalisation at £3.34 billion (Casino.org News). On 4 September City AM reported shareholder group claims over the £585m deferred prosecution agreement on historic bribery in its former Turkish operations, filed by Morgan Lewis & Bockius and Fox Williams.

Where the demand lands

Insolvency and employment comes first. Entain has run two rounds of cuts: 500 roles in July and about 400 customer care roles in September. Each round creates collective consultation work for employment partners acting for Entain or for affected staff.

Corporate and M&A follows. The exit from the Polish and Croatian markets creates disposal work, and the £585m claims keep shareholder litigation on disputes teams' desks, with trial not due before 2029.

Re-engagement is the last. Four chief executives since 2020 and a July departure at the top of UK marketing mean senior appointments and service contracts to draft. This matters to partners and business development teams at UK law firms with gambling clients.
