What moved

Across the US market we track, 1,374 events at 1,282 companies landed in the seven days to 2026-10-05, up from 1,138 events at 1,086 companies the week before. Corporate and M&A carried 657 of them, against 537. The headline deal was Schneider Electric, reported on 2026-10-04 to be nearing a $20 billion acquisition of PTC (Bloomberg Markets, Investing.com).

Independent Pharmacy Cooperative acquired IntegralRx (Pulse2), and LTC Properties is buying senior housing in three states while selling non-SHOP assets (Simply Wall St). Smaller deals ran alongside. OpenPayd is pursuing a Nasdaq listing through a SPAC merger with Titan Acquisition (GN Nasdaq IPOs).

Insolvency and employment was the one category to fall, to 102 events from 114. On 2026-10-04 a Teamsters strike shut Coca-Cola Consolidated operations across multiple Ohio locations after contract talks failed (Simply Wall St).

Where the demand lands

For US law firms the demand lands first in Corporate and M&A, at 657 events. A deal the size of Schneider Electric and PTC brings merger clearance and cross-border diligence work, and the OpenPayd SPAC brings listing and disclosure work for capital markets teams.

Re-engagement rose to 323 events from 230, up 93 on the week. These are companies coming back into the market, and the work falls to a firm's partners and its business development team, who reopen the relationship before the instruction goes elsewhere.
